Protecting vulnerable children and strengthening families through prevention, response, recovery, and community support.
Every child has the right to grow up in a safe, loving, and protective environment. Yet thousands of children across Uganda continue to experience violence, neglect, abuse, exploitation, child labour, trafficking, harmful cultural practices, and family separation. According to the Uganda Violence Against Children Survey (VACS), a significant proportion of children experience physical, emotional, or sexual violence before reaching the age of eighteen. Many vulnerable children also lack access to justice, psychosocial support, and essential services that promote healing and long-term wellbeing.
Valizo Foundation is committed to strengthening child protection systems that prevent violence, respond to abuse, and promote the rights and dignity of every child. The Foundation works closely with families, schools, local leaders, law enforcement agencies, and child protection actors to identify vulnerable children, prevent abuse, and ensure timely referral to appropriate support services.
Through community awareness campaigns, child safeguarding initiatives, advocacy, and partnerships with government institutions, Valizo Foundation seeks to create communities where every child grows free from violence, discrimination, neglect, and exploitation.
"Every child deserves to grow in an environment that is safe, nurturing, and filled with opportunity."
Strong families provide the best environment for children to thrive. However, poverty, domestic violence, substance abuse, migration, and family breakdown continue to expose many children to neglect, institutional care, homelessness, and separation from their parents or caregivers.
Valizo Foundation believes that wherever it is safe and appropriate, children belong in family-based care. The Foundation strengthens vulnerable households through parenting education, family counselling, positive parenting programmes, economic empowerment initiatives, and community support systems that improve family resilience and reduce risks affecting children.
Where children have been separated from their families, Valizo Foundation works alongside government authorities and community structures to facilitate family tracing, reunification, and successful reintegration while ensuring the child's safety, dignity, and best interests remain the highest priority.
Children who experience abuse, neglect, violence, displacement, or trauma often face lasting emotional and psychological challenges that affect their education, relationships, and future opportunities.
Valizo Foundation promotes child mental health through counselling, psychosocial support, peer support groups, recreational activities, life-skills development, and community-based healing programmes. The Foundation also works with teachers, caregivers, and community leaders to identify emotional distress early and connect children to appropriate care.
Through partnerships with healthcare providers, social workers, and child protection professionals, Valizo Foundation ensures that vulnerable children receive holistic support that addresses both their physical safety and emotional wellbeing, empowering them to heal, grow, and realise their full potential.
